AFT: File Watcher for file size check?

Am I correct that you can check that a file has data before transfer by using File Watcher or is there a different way to do this?

Yes using the ctmfw utility that is run on the cleint of the machine you want to monitor the directory of. You can monitor for any size and have it watch to see if the file is done and for as long as time as you want.
You and also use a cylic job to have it monitor it for a few minutes every hour. and have it rerun if it does find one and you want to continue this during the day.

Quick question, what is the Auto-Edit field used for in the File Watcher tab? The image isn't so clear in the book for AFT. I assumed it was just the name of the file that FW should be watching.

My version doesnt have an autoedit field but it does have a set tab with auto edit which is used for setting variables that can be used in the filename such as adding the date or adding or removing prefixes or stripping the extentsion.

So if I didn't want any changes to the file name then I would leave this blank?

Yes, if you dont want to change the name leave this field blank
The auto edit field is only if you want to something like edit the file add a date a another variable or truncate the file name
