Linux/Oracle versus Windows/MSSQL

Hi

Currently our Linux EM/CMS 6.4 fp7 servers connect to Oracle db.
Our management is looking at a Control-M solution with MSSQL.

We are currently talking about jobs on the AJF (20000 -30000 per day), about
job executions (150 - 250K per day), about concurrent Agents (150).

Is a Windows/MSSQL solution able to cope ?
Are there reasons why we should not convert ?
or why we definitely should convert ?

Will the conversion process be an easy one or not ?

MSSQL can work well in your production.
Consider to migrate to the new controlM version and consider that there is also an embedded DB: postgres.

Keep Linux and use Postgres instead of Oracle. We run a huge CTM shop and have not had a single failure on Postgres. It's free light, robust and manages itself.

Hosting critical software (Control-M) on a Windows server ... does that sound to you like a good idea to you honestly ? Good luck with that !

On windows server? Yes no problems !
Good performances too with ms sql server.

@mauriziog: just out of curiosity:

- what's your SLA ?
- how many times per year do you reboot your server ?
- how many times per month do you restart your Control-M/Server ?

My SLA ?
Controlm must be operational ever.

- never reboot windows server, only for programmed maintenence. For example ControlM fix packs installations, and at the same time are programmed the windows updates (if necessary).

- related to the above point, are about one time each 6 month; even more.

I speak for five productions that use Ms Windows SO for about 2.000 jobs, 5.000 jobs, 8.000 jobs, 6.000 and 60.000 jobs; all with only one controlM server.

By 'your SLA' I meant your client/company SLA

Anyways thanks for feeding my curiosity. Care to share your NDP time for the 60k Control-M/Server (and the quantity of ordrered jobs ordered by SYSTEM) ?

- NPD time at 00:00
- all jobs in SYSTEM (for production with 60.000)

In others NDP at 08:45 a.m, 08:00 a.m., 00:00, 13:00 p.m. and 50-70 % jobs in SYSTEM.

For 60000 about 10 minutes (from 5 to 9) (but if "user daily" will be used...); for other in less than 1, max 2 minutes.
