Control-m version 8 thoughts and opinions.

Post by jstarkw » 14 Feb 2013 8:05

I have been in the process of upgrading to version 7. Now, I have recently been introduced to version 8 via webex and it really looks awesome. I am seriously considering upgrading to 8 instead of 7. Would love to hear some opinions from the group. Is it stable? Easy to learn? pro's con's and so forth. Thank you in advance.

Hi

There is two different approach.

1 - If you are new Control-M user, new Interface could be very interesting, and you will not have any problem with new vocabulary.

2 - But if you already use Control-M and have a lot of users working and knowing vocabulary, you must explain all differences.
And there is a lot of differences.

So considering the option 2, I will advice to migrate in version 7.0, because that version is now stable and fix pack already exist to solve all problem we found.
In V8, FP will exit not before tow months.

But what are major differences between 7 and 8?
- The terminology, some words are different, example :
Table now will be a Folder
Group will be Sub-Application
Autoedit will be variable
Owner will be Run_as
NodeId will be HostID
etc...

- Utilities option are changed too, to use terminology.
ctmping -NODEID will be ctmping -HOSTID
But, good news, old option are still usable.

- Windows Client now is only one client including, CCM, Desktop, Report Facility and GUI.

- Processes to Write and Load disappear, leaving only ONLINE Workspace

- UPLOAD and DOWNLOAD processes are changes to CHECK IN / CHECK OUT.

And a lot off other news....
So, a training will be important...
