Does anyone have paging setup with Control_M

Post by darbur » 02 Feb 2009 6:50

I am wondering if anyone has setup paging with Control-M. I have heard that paging can be setup to page based on an alert in the Control-M/EM alert log.
I have heard about using SNMP traps.

Does anyone know anything about this and how it can be done?

You need some sort of system to handle the paging. We use TelAlert, but that is not specific to Control-M (it plus into SNMP framwork tools). BMC have partnered with a 3rd party to sell "AlarmPoint" which is a pager-based sytem that alarms and also allows basic Control-M functions to be run from the pager. Ask BMC for the AlarmPoint pdf.

Depending how high or low tech you want to be, most paging systems allow pages to be triggered via an email. If that's the case, you can simply define a SHOUT destination to be an email script [e.g. mailx for Unix or blat for Windows/DOS] and define the the job to Shout to that destination when it fails.
